While Alka Dalal was a neighbor, we had the opportunity to admire her art in her home and to view her portfolio, as well. We had never commissioned a work before, but were confident that she could create a piece for us that we would be proud to hang in our Family Room. Wanting a lasting reminder of historic Pittsford, NY, a small village split by the Erie Canal, we provided Alka with samples of other paintings we admired. She drew most of her inspiration of one with mules on the towpath pulling a packet boat down the water through lush countryside with familiar old buildings in the background. Incorporating colors complimentary to our room, the beautiful watercolor provides a restful view of the past from a prime spot above our sofa. Alka made our wish come true, and more!

Alka is a multi-faceted personality that includes being an accomplished painter. She uses different media to suit the subject of her paintings. She is a patient teacher for novices. We were exposed to her paintings at community shows and conventions. Two of her excellent paintings, one landscape and one abstract, adorn our family room.

A masterpiece in its own class, this oil painting has been carefully painted right from the first brushstroke to the final touches. This canvas painting depicts the sacred syllable OM in green which symbolizes Brahman the impersonal Absolute of Hinduism — omnipotent, omnipresent, and the source of all manifest existence. Brahman, in itself, is incomprehensible; so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us realize the Unknowable. Alka Dalal is a painter of passionate and tranquil and dormant waters. She has a taste for harmonious colorations in the play of similar tones.
